2014 Dodge Durango Turns to the Dark Side With Blacktop Package

If you like the way Dodge's Blacktop Appearance package looks on the Challenger, Charger, and Dart, chances are you'll like the way it looks on the 2014 Durango. The three-row crossover is now available with the popular package that dresses up the exterior and interior with sporty-looking blacked out elements.

What comes as part of the Blacktop treatment varies with each trim level. Checking off the Blacktop option on SXT models means it gets its 20-inch wheels, crosshair grille, side mirrors, and exterior badging finished in a gloss-black color. Black headlight bezels, a dual rear exhaust with bright tips, and a body-colored front fascia and moldings complete the look on SXT models. Limited models get that entire treatment, plus HID headlights and LED daytime running lights for $1990, which is $400 more than what the package costs on the SXT model. Since the range-topping R/T already comes with a generous amount of goodies, the Blacktop package only costs $295 since only the 20-inch wheels, grille, and badging are painted in gloss black. Opting for the package also means the exterior color choices are limited to Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, and Redline Red.

As far as power goes, the SXT and Limited Models are powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that makes 295 hp and 260 lb-ft. Dishing out more power is the R/T, which benefits from a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2014 Dodge Durango recently took the cake in our three-row crossover Big Test. "The Durango's third row is better than most of these second rows, and its second-row captain's chairs are even better," we said. "The real kicker is how easy it is to get in and out of any row. Besides the space, the interior is a nice place to be, feeling very man cave-like with just about every judge using the word 'tough' to describe it. Its new eight-speed transmission has made all the difference in driving."
