2014 Kia Soul Exclaim Long-Term Update 4

We've talked about how our long-term 2014 Kia Soul is handsomely equipped with all the goodies and gadgets you'd possibly want in a car within the same price range. Although the Exclaim model already comes with a boatload of standard features, including UVO eServices, we took it up a notch by adding the Sun & Sound package. Checking off this option throws in stuff such as the panoramic sunroof, but it's important to note that it also comes with the navigation system, which limits UVO eServices functionality. Is the navigation system worth that "limited functionality"?

UVO eServices serves as link between the Soul and the web, allowing owners to view important information about their car along with their driving habits. This is all integrated with the free UVO eServices smartphone app, with the full experience featuring functions like "Parking Minder," which is exactly what it sounds like. You can also run regular vehicle diagnostics through the app and schedule service appointments, and similar to GM's OnStar, UVO eServices also comes with a contact service that calls 911 if the airbag has deployed. If you think you'll find use in all of these features, think twice about getting the Sun & Sound package. The only eServices that are available on our nav-equipped model are roadside assist and eServices guide. However, after a bit of research, we discovered a new update unlocks some of those features.

I downloaded the eServices app to my iPhone and had trouble activating it in the Soul, so I called the number provided on the app and was told I needed a map update to activate the app in the Soul's head unit. We'll have to wait and see what this update does because it has yet to arrive in the mail, but once it does, we'll have a full report on it.

Aside from all the UVO eServices stuff, I noticed that the black trim on the tailgate was starting to lift on the left side. The trim on the right side also appeared to be lifting, so we'll point that out to the dealer the next time we take the Soul for a service check, which should be happening in the next few weeks. A couple of sideswipe scrapes also appeared on the Soul's left rear wheelwell, so it's definitely starting to look broken in.
