2014 Mazda6 Recalled For Fuel Tank Issue

Mazda is recalling a number of model year 2014 Mazda6 sedans to make a modification to the fuel tank, which could leak under certain conditions.

The Problem: Mazda says a number of factors could lead to a fuel tank leak. For starters, it’s possible to refuel the tank beyond capacity. If that happens and is followed by increased temperature changes, fuel volume may expand and could seep into the charcoal canister. Fuel could leak once the canister reaches capacity. Mazda says the check engine light should come on once fuel enters the canister.

The Fix: Mazda will install an adapter that will prevent overfilling the fuel tank. Dealers will inspect the charcoal canister and replace if necessary. Mazda also plans on modifying owner's manuals with a warning about filling the fuel tank beyond capacity.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Mazda is recalling 18,592 Mazda6 sedans from model year 2014. The vehicles were produced from October 25,2012 to May 9, 2013.
