No surprises here. Once again, white is the most popular car color in North America and around the globe, according to data from paint company PPG Industries.

Research

White grew in popularity this year, as it now accounts for 23 percent of all new vehicles in North America. Black came in second place at 18 percent, followed by gray (16 percent) and silver (15 percent).

And what is the favorite choice among luxury car customers? Still white, according to the survey, but these vehicles were more likely to feature a metallic or pearl tri-coat paint. Sports cars are the most likely to feature offbeat colors like red, blue, or green, overtaking gray and silver in popularity.

The people at PPG also say that richer, "high-depth" versions of today's blues, reds, and yellows will emerge.

Globally, the paint colors are ranked: white (28 percent), black (18 percent), and silver/gray (both 13 percent). In Europe and Asia Pacific, white and black also remain the top two color choices respectively. But in South America, silver shares the spotlight with white, as each color represents 32 percent of all new cars in the region.
