Chrysler has issued a recall for about 6800 2014 Ram ProMaster vans due to brake hose issues that may cause the ProMaster to leak brake fluid and degrade brake performance. The recall comes about a month after a number of ProMaster vans were found to have an accelerator pedal issue, which may cause the gas pedal to be stuck at wide open throttle.

The Problem : The Ram ProMaster's braking woes can all be traced to the use of a specific wrench on the ProMaster's production line, which caused damage to the brake hose of affected vehicles. The damaged brake hose could be susceptible to leaking, which would degrade brake performance and increase the risk of a crash.

The Fix:Chrysler says it will notify ProMaster owners and dealers (about half of the affected 2014 ProMasters are still on dealer lots) of the issues and fix them free of charge. The fixes include new brake hoses (if necessary). Customers may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 if they desire. Chrysler's internal recall code for the brake hose issue is P03.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected : According to Chrysler, about 6800 Ram ProMaster vans are affected by the recall, with about half of those vans currently in dealer hands.
