2014 Toyota Highlander Recalled for Problem with Seat Belt

As if sitting in the third-row middle seat in the 2014 Toyota Highlander wasn't bad enough, the seat belt in certain models does not meet safety standards.

The Problem : Toyota is recalling certain 2014 Highlander SUVs because the seat belt in the third-row middle seat may not have been properly installed. The seat belt may not be secured to the floor anchorage, which could increase the risk of injury to the passenger in the event of a crash. The Highlander's unstable seat belt fails to meet the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

The Fix : Dealers will inspect the third row middle seat belt anchor and if they find it wasn't installed properly, they will secure it to the vehicle floor anchorage for free. Toyota will begin notifying owners this month, but the company can also be reached at 1-800-331-4331.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 7067 units of the 2014 Highlanders built between November 20, 2013 and January 18, 2014.
