The stop-sale Volkswagen ordered on models equipped with the new 1.8-liter turbo engine has resulted in a voluntary recall, which addresses an O-ring on the transmission oil cooler that could leak. The recall affects 26,452 models, though only 1655 of those are in the hands of customers.

The Problem: A supplier material change of the transmission oil cooler O-ring brings the part out of spec. The O-rings don't completely seal between the oil cooler and transmission, and could result in a leak which in rare cases could cause a fire. The Fix:Volkswagen will replace the faulty O-ring with a new one at no charge to the owner. VW plans to notify owners of affected vehicles and will arrange for appointments with authorized dealers.
