2015 Audi A3 Rated at 23/33 MPG, Quattro Boasts Better City Rating

With the new 2015 Audi A3 about to hit dealerships, the EPA has finally revealed the sedan’s fuel economy numbers. The A3 sedan with the 1.8-liter engine will achieve 23/33/27 mpg city/highway/combined, while the A3 quattro is slightly more efficient.

Most A3 sedans will be powered by the 170-hp turbocharged 1.8-liter I-4, but for those who opt for the more powerful A3 Quattro with the 220-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, you'll actually gain one more mpg in the city for an EPA-rated 24/33/27 mpg. Every 2015 Audi A3 engine gets a six-speed automatic, and although the sedan boasts better numbers than the gasoline-powered A3 hatchback, it's not quite up to par with its biggest competitor, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA. The Mercedes-Benz CLA250 with the 208-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four achieves an EPA-rated 26/38/30 mpg, which could be attributed to the seven-speed automatic and the standard ECO stop-start system that helps preserve fuel. Even the racier 355-hp CLA45 AMG achieves the same as the base A3 in the city, and only one less mpg combined. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

Keep in mind there's still the updated 150-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4 to look forward to. While EPA ratings haven't been revealed for that engine just yet, we can expect it to be around the current diesel-powered A3 hatch's 30/42/34 mpg. We’ll also get the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid with a 148-hp 1.4-liter I-4 that works with a 75kw electric motor for a combined output of just over 200 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. An “e-S tronic” six-speed automatic transmission delivers that power to the wheels, and Audi says the A3 e-tron can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 138 mph. The hybrid will also run on pure electric mode for up to 31 miles.

The base A3 starts at $30,795 including destination, and will begin arriving in dealerships this spring.
