New for 2015

The 2015 Audi S6 now comes standard with LED headlights and a head-up display.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Audi S6 is the performance variant of the A6. The all-wheel-drive sedan is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 rated at 420 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, and paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For a powerful car, the S6 achieves surprisingly good fuel economy at 17/27 mpg city/highway.

Overview

Acceleration in the 2015 Audi S6 is brisk thanks to its V-8 engine, which provides plenty of power for passing and merging even at high speeds. The car also handles well for its size due to its standard all-wheel drive and air suspension. Additionally, these features help it stay stable at high speeds and provide plenty of grip in all types of weather. There are plenty of standard and optional tech features in the S6, including Audi's MMI infotainment interface, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a host of safety aids such as active lane assist, adaptive cruise control, top and corner view cameras, and night vision.

The Driver Assistance package adds a host of safety aids including automatic front emergency braking, Audi active lane assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go function. Other safety features include blind spot warning, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning. The NHTSA gave the 2015 Audi S6 a five-star overall safety rating (out of a possible five stars). In IIHS evaluations, the A6, the car on which the S6 is based, achieved a Good score in four categories. (Good is the highest possible score.)

What We Think

The 2015 Audi S6 remains a well-balanced car that provides great performance and daily drivability. In a 2013 First Drive review, we said that the car is "exceptional" in its segment because of how well it blends a comfortable ride, impressive acceleration and handling, and luxury for its size. However, the S6's exterior looks conservative when compared to the mechanically related S7 hatchback, which has a coupe-like profile and a pop-up spoiler.
