New for 2015

The 2015 Bentley Continental GT gains the GT3-R variant , a stripped down, all-wheel-drive-equipped high-performance model that uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with 572 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Vehicle Summary

The Bentley Continental GT is an all-wheel-drive luxury coupe with seating for four passengers. It is also available as a convertible called the Continental GTC.

Overview

Two engines are available in the 2015 Bentley Continental GT: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W-12, both paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is decent for such a large and powerful grand tourer with V-8 models rated at 15/25 mpg city/highway and 12/21 mpg for W-12-equipped variants. Output varies depending on the model; V-8 models have 500 hp and 487 lb-ft in the base car, and 521 hp and 402 lb-ft in the V-8 S. W-12-equipped cars are more powerful, with the base GT producing 567 hp and 516 lb-ft, and 626 hp and 607 lb-ft in the GT Speed.

Regardless of the engine, the Continental GT accelerates with authority and belies its curb weight of over two tons. Handling is also exceptional for such a large coupe takes turns smoothly and without drama. For those looking for the most performance, the Continental GT3-R is the closest thing to a Bentley race car available for sale. This particular model weighs 200 pounds less than the base Continental GT V-8, has sharper handling and steering responses, and is faster than W-12 equipped models due to it being lighter.

The Continental GT's interior is a pleasant place to be and is constructed with high-quality materials by hand. Almost every surface inside the car's cabin is swathed in leather, real wood and metal accents, and contrast stitching in the seats, dash, door, and side panels. Tech and convenience options are plenty and include navigation, Naim sound system, and seats with heating, ventilation, and massaging function. Performance options include carbon ceramic brakes and sport exhaust for those looking to improve the car's already impressive driving dynamics.

What We Think

Despite its heavy weight and large dimensions, the luxurious Bentley Continental GT offers surprising performance for its size. In a First Drive review of a Continental GT3-R, we said that the car's "chassis response is totally linear" and that it turns in "remarkably crisply and concisely" while remaining composed on rough roads thanks to its well-tuned chassis. Its interior is also notable because it is lavishly appointed and well-trimmed with real metal and wood accents, and high-grade leather.

In a 2014 First Test review, we said that nearly every surface inside the car is covered in leather, including the seats, door, dashboard, steering wheel, side panels and headliner. While there are technically seats for four passengers, the Continental GT is best as a car for two since the rear positions are only "decorative" and can't really fit adults. Additionally, subtle upscale touches such as the diamond-quilted, perforated leather seats and door panels included in the Mulliner Drive specifications make the car look like "a rolling museum of industrial art."
