New for 2015

Bentley adds a second model to the Mulsanne range for 2015 called the Speed. This variant gets a more powerful version of the twin-turbocharged 6.8-liter V-8, with 530 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque. The car's driving range has also been increase by 13 percent, or 50 miles over the base sedan.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Bentley Mulsanne is a rear-drive full-size luxury sedan powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.8-liter V-8 paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy isn't impressive due to the car's considerable power and large size, at 11/18 mpg city/highway.

Even with its curb weight over nearly three tons, the 2015 Bentley Mulsanne's powerful twin-turbocharged V-8 engine allows it to accelerate with ease. To conserve fuel, the engine can also deactivate some of its cylinders especially in situations where its full power isn't needed. Refinement is also a strong point due to the V-8 being extremely quiet at cruising speeds and plenty of sound deadening material throughout the entire vehicle. Handling is also notable for such a large sedan because its air suspension, which is independent in all four corners, gives it a level of agility that belies its size.

As you'd expect in Bentley's flagship sedan, the 2015 Mulsanne's build quality is impeccable. Inside the Mulsanne, you'll find real wood veneer and metal accents, and rich leather. Tech features include a 20-speaker 2,200-watt sound system, an eight-inch infotainment screen, and a leather-lined drawer for mobile devices.

The NHTSA and IIHS have not crash tested the 2015 Bentley Mulsanne.

What We Think

The Bentley Mulsanne is a sedan that coddles its occupants in a luxurious, hand-crafted interior swathed in high-quality materials and plenty of technology. In a First Drive review, we said that the new version, the Mulsanne Speed, "is every bit as luxurious and decadent" as the standard car. Subtle luxurious touches such as the diamond quilt leather and knurled metal finishes make it feel more upscale. In addition to the car's impressive acceleration, the car also handles well for its size and "rolls gracefully" when turning, and grips well despite the Mulsanne's near three-ton curb weight.
