New for 2015The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is a new midsize truck with two new engines and a host of new features including an available 4G LTE hotspot capability. A diesel powertrain will also be offered on the Colorado range in the future.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is a midsize truck sold in four grades, two cab styles, two bed lengths, and in rear- or four-wheel drive configurations. A 2.5-liter I-4 with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque is standard on the 2015 Colorado and a 3.6-liter V-6 making 305 hp and 269 lb-ft is optional. Colorado’s equipped with the I-4 are available with either a six-speed manual or automatic while V-6-equipped trucks are only offered with the six-speed automatic.

Overview

The optional V-6 engine is a highlight in the 2015 Colorado because of its impressive power, allowing it to accelerate effortlessly. However, throttle response could use some improvement since it doesn’t provide much feedback unless the driver “practically floors it.” Ride and handling are also top-notch with little body roll, good steering, and a pleasant ride. Maximum towing capacity is generous at 7,000 pounds with the V-6 engine.

Fuel economy is impressive with I-4 models achieving 20/27 mpg city/highway in rear-drive guise with the automatic, 19/26 mpg with the manual, and 19/25 mpg with four-wheel drive. V-6 Colorado’s are rated at 18/26 mpg in rear-drive models and 17/24 mpg with four-wheel drive.

Interior quality is impressive with high quality materials and a host of new optional tech features that include Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system, Siri Eyes Free, and an eight-inch touch screen with an available navigation system. Passenger up front and in the rear is generous and comfortable while storage space is plentiful with many cubbies for small items.

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or IIHS.

What We Think

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is an excellent entry into the shrinking midsize truck segment with is impressive capabilities, good fuel economy, and well-built interior. In a First Test review, we said that the 2015 Colorado has great handling that made it “nimble enough to actually be fun.” Acceleration was another strong point with the V-6 providing great power and a punchy I-4 “that revs willingly.” Interior space, comfort and usability are the 2015 Colorado’s other strong suit with “the most comfortable seats” and “the nicest infotainment system,” making it a road trip-worthy truck. The V-6 is the pick of the range since it gives up little to the I-4 in terms of fuel economy despite having an extra 105 hp and 78 lb-ft of torque. We liked the 2015 Colorado so much, it's the 2015 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.
