Chevrolet's new entry-level crossover, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax, will start at $20,995 when it goes on sale in January. The subcompact crossover will be available in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels.

For $20,995, buyers receive standard features like a rearview camera, 10 airbags, and Chevrolet MyLink telematics system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen. All-wheel drive, which is available on all trim levels, can be had for an extra $1,500. Other available features include Siri Eyes Free and OnStar 4G LTE technology that turns the vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot. 2015 Chevrolet Trax Side© Provided by MotorTrend 2015 Chevrolet Trax Side

The compact crossover is based on GM's Gamma II global small-car platform that underpins the Buick Encore and Chevrolet Sonic and Spark small cars. It receives a turbocharged 1.4-liter I-4 that produces 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 26/34 mpg city/highway.

Chevrolet has made significant progress in the small vehicle market. During the last four years, its share in the small-, compact-, and mini-car segments has more than tripled thanks to the launch of seven new vehicles. The Chevrolet Trax will go against the Nissan Juke and the upcoming Jeep Renegade in the emerging mini-SUV segment.

But the Trax is far from a new product. The model is already sold in 66 markets across the globe with sales totaling 155,000 so far.
