Chevrolet is showing off two pickup truck concepts at the State Fair of Texas this week: the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport concept and the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado “Toughnology” concept.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport Concept
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Sport concept shows off many of the dealer-installed authorized GM accessories including side steps, cargo rings, splash guards, tiered storage, bike rack, cargo divider, and wheel lip moldings. The focal piece of the concept truck is the adjustable GearOn Accessory System that can be used to haul bikes or kayaks without losing bed space. Smaller gear can still be stowed in the bed, while larger toys can be carried above.

Standard convenience features include easy lift-and-lower tailgate and rear bumper assist steps. The Colorado Sport Concept also features special concept wheels that are being considered for production. Accessories added at vehicle purchase are covered under the new-vehicle warranty and can be added to the vehicle’s financing. The 2015 Colorado can tow up to 7000 pounds depending on configuration.

2015 Chevrolet Silverado “Toughnology” Concept
In order to highlight the use of stronger and lighter high-strength steel, the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado “Toughnology” concept features a unique “raw steel” paint scheme with a black hood. Steel molecule graphics further emphasize the raw steel look. High-strength steel can be up to 30 percent lighter than carbon steel without any loss of strength, according to Chevrolet. The automaker also notes that high-strength steel is also less costly than aluminum.

While 67 percent of the Silverado ’s cab is made from high-strength steel, ultra-high-strength steel is used in the A-pillars, B-pillars, rockers, roof rails, underbody, and some interior structures. The automaker says the materials help the 2015 Silverado 1500 crew cab earn an NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating. Further weight reduction comes by way of roll-formed steel used for the pickup box floor, while aluminum is used for the hood.

Additionally, the Silverado “Toughnology” Concept features genuine Chevrolet accessories including a front grille insert, tubular side steps, soft, folding tonneau cover, washable carpet bedliner, fender flares, tinted headlights, and 22-inch wheels shod with off-road tires.

Other upgrades include performance air intake and exhaust systems, and beefier brakes. Based on an LTZ model, the concept has leather seating, rear entertainment system and OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless phone-charging mat.
