Shortly after the production version of the 2015 Ford F-150 was shown at the 2014 Detroit auto show, the Blue Oval announced a new snow plow prep kit, which the automaker claims is the only OEM snow plow prep kit available for a light-duty pickup. Ford announced today that the snow plow prep kit is prices at just $50, not including the plow.

The snow plow prep kit is made possible due to the use of more high-strength steel in the frame and lightweight aluminum used in the body and cab, according to the automaker. The upgrade is available on Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew bodies. Additionally, the pickup must be an XL, XLT, or Lariat trim equipped with four-wheel drive and the 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Maximum weight for the light-duty plow is rated at over 450 pounds.

The snow plow and installation are not included in the kit. Installation of the plow must be done by a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier.

Although, the snow plow prep kit is only available for the 385-hp 5.0-liter V-8 with 387 lb-ft of torque, the 2015 Ford F-150 is available with three additional engines. The base engine is a 282-hp, 253-lb-ft naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6. In addition, two different EcoBoost V-6 engines available. The first is a new 325-hp, 375-lb-ft 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6, while the second is the 365-hp, 420-lb-ft 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6. All engines are backed by a six-speed automatic.
