New for 2015

The 2015 Infiniti QX60 gains a new high-contrast Wheat interior color, and an improved continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Three new exterior colors, Hermosa Blue, Majestic White and Graphite Shadow are new for 2015 while Glacial Silver, Moonlight White, and Diamond Slate have been deleted from the exterior color palette.

Vehicle Summary

Formerly known as the JX35, the 2015 Infiniti QX60 is a three-row luxury crossover available in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations and is mechanically related to the Nissan Pathfinder. A hybrid is also available in addition to the gas-powered QX60.

Overview

Most 2015 Infiniti QX60s are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 265 hp with 248 lb-ft of torque, while also available is a supercharged 2.5-liter hybrid I-4 with a total system output of 250 hp and 243 lb-ft. Both are paired to a CVT, which has improved shift logic for the 2015 model year. Fuel economy is decent in gas-powered models, with front-drive variants achieving 21/26 mpg city/highway while opting for all-wheel drive drops those numbers down to 19/26 mpg. Hybrid QX60s are the most efficient at 26/28 mpg with front-wheel drive and 25/28 mpg with all-wheel drive.

Being a family-oriented vehicle, performance isn't the main strength of the 2015 QX60, particularly the base car with its gas-powered V-6, which struggles to move the crossover due to its curb weight of over two tons. While the crossover doesn't roll excessively and steering feel is adequate, it doesn't handle well due to its height and weight.

Interior quality is a strong point, with plenty of high-grade materials such as supple leather, soft-touch plastics, and real wood accents. Seating in all three rows is generous for adults especially with the sliding second row bench; however, third row headroom is limited due to the crossover's sloping roofline. Cargo capacity is generous with up to 76.4 cubic feet of volume with the second and third rows folded down. Tech features and safety aids are abundant and include navigation with an eight-inch touchscreen, 13-speaker Bose audio system, blind spot warning, distance control assist, front and rear park assist, intelligent brake assist with forward collision warning, dual seven-inch entertainment screens, lane departure warning, and AroundView Monitor.

Active safety features include blind spot warning and Lane Departure Prevention, which applies the brakes to ease the vehicle away from another lane, Intelligent Brake Assist with Forward Collision Warning that can help reduce the speed of the collision, Backup Collision Intervention, and adaptive cruise control. The NHTSA gave the 2015 QX60 a five-star overall safety score (out of a possible five stars) while the IIHS considers it a Top Safety Pick, earning a Good rating in five categories (Good is the highest possible score).

What We Think

Among luxury crossovers, the 2015 Infiniti QX60 is ideal for those with families, thanks to its spacious and well-appointed cabin. In a 2013 First Test review, we said that the QX60's interior is "simple and classy" and has "the usual barrage of Infiniti-grade supple leather, soft plastics, and textured wood." While space in the car is generous, the third row lacks headroom due to the crossover's sloping roofline, which makes it usable only for short trips. The similarities to the Nissan Pathfinder also puts into question whether the QX60's higher asking price is worth it. In a 2014 First Test review, we said that both cars offer the same powertrains and similar options; however, the Pathfinder commands a lower price since it doesn't wear an Infiniti badge.
