New for 2015

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type is now available as a coupe and in the high-performance R trim with a more potent version of the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. A new InControl Apps user interface and an optional Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system with 15.7-inch front- and 15-inch rear disc brakes are new for the 2015 model year. The 2016 F-Type will add available all-wheel drive and a manual transmission on certain models.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type is a two-seat, rear-drive sports car available in coupe or convertible body styles. Regardless of the trim level, Jaguar gives customers a high level of customizability, allowing the buyer to tailor the car to his/her liking.

Overview

The 2015 Jaguar F-Type is offered with two engines: a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque in the base model and 380 hp and 339 lb-ft in the S trim, plus a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 making 495 hp and 364 lb-ft in the V8 S convertible or 550 hp and 502 lb-ft in the R coupe. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which allow the F-Type to achieve decent fuel economy for a performance vehicle, with base models achieving 20/28 mpg city/highway, 19/27 mpg for V-6 S variants, and 16/23 mpg for the R Coupe and V8 S.

Providing exceptional performance is the 2015 F-Type's main goal, and it delivers that in spades with powerful engines and superb driving dynamics. Both V-6 and V-8 engines provide plenty of power that allows the car to accelerate with authority thanks to its strong mid-range torque. The car's stuff, performance-tuned suspension setup gives it impeccable handling even with a big V-8 under the hood, allowing it to turn in quickly and take corners confidently with little drama.

Interior quality in the 2015 F-Type is a strong point, with plenty of high-quality materials used throughout the cabin such as soft-touch plastics, real metal and carbon fiber trims, and soft-touch leather upholstery. The F-Type also excels when it comes to style with its dramatic exterior and a classy interior with many ways to personalize it. Two-tone upholsteries, more aggressively-bolstered sport seats, and higher-end audio systems by Meridian are all available in both the coupe and convertible regardless of the trim level.

The NHTSA and IIHS have not crash tested the 2015 Jaguar F-Type.

What We Think

Among performance cars, the 2015 Jaguar F-Type blends exceptional performance and style beautifully-designed sports car. In a 2014 First Test review, we said that it is an "energetic" machine and is "a true and fun driver's car" because it offers high levels of driver involvement and balance in an attractive package. R Coupes offer the most potent performance thanks to its powerful supercharged V-8 and more rigid body, which "made it feel more composed on the track." The F-Type Coupe's exterior styling is another strong point as we noted in a First Drive review with its swooping roofline, long hood, and "sultry haunches," which gives the car presence. Where the car falters is in its infotainment system and driver aids, which are slightly behind some competitors. Additionally, the blind-spot monitoring system in one car we tested crashed twice and had to be rebooted by restarting the car. Due to the battery and windshield washer fluid reservoir being in the back, trunk space is puny on F-Type convertibles at 7.1 cubic feet as we noted in a 2014 First Drive review.
