New for 2015

The 2015 Lexus LS 460 gains an updated navigation system, and Lexus Enform App Suite with Slacker and iHeartRadio 4.0 and Lexus Enform Remote. F Sport badges have also been added to the rear of F Sport models, and dynamic gridlines are now included on the rearview camera.

Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Lexus LS 460 is a full-size luxury sedan available in short or long wheelbases and in rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations. A 4.6-liter V-8 with 386 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque (360 hp and 347 lb-ft with all-wheel drive) is the standard engine and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lexus also offers a hybrid variant called the LS 600h L, which is equipped with a 5.0-liter hybrid V-8 with a total system output of 438 hp. LS 460 fuel economy is decent at 16/24 mpg city/highway in rear-drive guise, 16/23 mpg with all-wheel drive, and 19/23 mpg in the LS 600h L hybrid.

When equipped with the F Sport package, the 2015 Lexus LS 460 handles decently thanks to its sportier suspension; however, its main mission remains to provide a comfortable ride and isolate occupants from the road. Due to the carryover engines from the previous generation, acceleration is merely adequate. Refinement, on the other hand, is typical Lexus with a chassis that soaks up bumps, giving the car an extremely comfortable ride that won’t tire the driver or passengers.

Seating is good for five passengers with the 2015 LS' standard rear bench setup, but buyers can also opt for a two-place executive seating in long-wheelbase models, which come with massage and recline functions. Build quality is good for the class, with plenty of high-grade materials, including soft leather, real wood accents, and more substantial plastics, used throughout the cabin. Tech features are plenty and include a 12.3-inch widescreen display for the navigation and infotainment systems. This is operated via a mouse-style controller that is used across various models in Lexus’ lineup.

The NHTSA hasn’t crash tested the 2015 Lexus LS 460. In IIHS evaluations, the 2014 model earned a good score in the moderate overlap front and head restraints and seats categories (Good is the highest possible score).

What We Think

For those who prioritize comfort, the 2015 Lexus LS 460 is a good choice because of its refined and quiet interior and relaxed ride. Cars equipped with the F Sport package, as we noted in a First Test review, are more responsive and handle better, featuring bigger brakes and quicker steering without ruining its comfortable ride. The larger 12.3-inch screen is one of the highlights inside the LS 460’s cabin because allows the driver to have two types of information on display at the same time. While models with the F Sport package are better to drive versus cars without it, it could use a more aggressive transmission response in Sport+ mode.
