Vehicle Summary

The 2015 Lexus RC F is a high-performance rear-drive coupe and is the range-topping variant of the RC lineup. The two-door is powered by 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque that's paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is surprisingly good for such a powerful sports car, at 16/25 mpg city/highway. The entry-level RC 350 is also available and is powered by a 306-hp 3.5-liter V-6.

Overview

The 2015 Lexus RC F accomplishes its performance-oriented mission thanks to its snarling naturally aspirated V-8, quick-shifting transmission, and a well-tuned chassis. Despite weighing nearly two tons, the RC F is a capable handler and feels at home on twisty roads since it doesn't immediately default to understeer when pushed hard; however, it's more of a "sporty street car" rather than an all-out track weapon. The RC F's cabin is a nice place to be with plenty of interesting details such as gauges inspired by the LFA supercar and gadgets such as a G meter. The RC F's aggressive predator-like front design means that it may not be to everyone's liking.

In IIHS safety evaluations, the 2015 Lexus RC F received a Good score in five testing categories and is considered a Top Safety Pick+ (Good is the highest possible score).

What We Think

Among luxury performance coupes, the 2015 Lexus RC F is one of the most well-rounded, offering excellent performance and daily drivability. In a First Test review, we said that the car is a great driving machine that has little understeer thanks to its well-tuned suspension, torque vectoring differential, a fast-shifting eight-speed gearbox, and a powerfulV-8. However, the RC F lost a comparison test against the BMW M4 coupe mainly due to its lower performance envelope, which was exacerbated by its weight and a suspension that wasn't as aggressive as the M4's.

As an all-around package, the RC F offers plenty of performance and a more extroverted, LFA-inspired interior, making it the more interesting car to sit in.
