If you're looking to row-your-own in a Mazda 3, you now have another powertrain option. The 2015 Mazda 3 will offer a six-speed manual in combination with the larger 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Although the 3's 2.0-liter engine previously offered the choice of manual and automatic gearboxes, the manual option for 2.5-liter s models was not available for the redesigned compact 's first year on the market.

The manual transmission 3 s models are available in Touring and Grand Touring trim and achieve 26/35 mpg city/highway, slightly lower than the 2.5L automatic model’s 27/37 mpg. The 2.5-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder still produces 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, and the manual car weighs 40 lbs less than its automatic equivalent. 2015 Mazda 3 i models are still powered by a 155-hp, 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder with a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The other major change for all 2015 Mazda 3 models is that the Mazda Connect infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen is now standard on all hatchbacks and sedans save for the sedan’s base i SV trim.

Despite this extra equipment, prices don’t rise at all for the 2015 Mazda 3 i models, and s models go up just $300 for the Touring and $100 for the Grand Touring. The new manual transmission does subtract $1050 from the entry price of s models, with the s Touring sedan starting at $24,940 and the s Touring hatchback now starting at $25,140, both with destination.

The 2015 Mazda 3 is on sale now.
