The powerful and opulent 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG was revealed late last year. Now, Mercedes will debut the lesser -- yet still immensely lavish -- V-12-powered sibling to that poster car of excess at the Detroit auto show this week. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S600 ups its exclusivity factor with a larger engine and a number of new standard features.

That represents a slight bump of 13 hp, though peak torque is now available at 1900 rpm. The engine features an all-aluminum crankcase, a forged crankshaft and pistons, twin-spark ignition with dedicated ignition coils, a new ECU, and three sodium-filled valves per cylinder. Stop-start capability is now standard on the S600, along with many other features introduced on the new S-Class like Magic Body Control active suspension with Road Surface Scan. The 12-cylinder luxury flagship also gets the Driving Assistance Package as standard, which includes Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Distronic Plus, Pre-Safe Plus, and other advanced safety systems.

The S600 also gains the same touchpad interface found in the rest of the new S-Class range, which can recognize handwritten characters. Other standard features include a head-up display and Collision Prevntion Assist Plus, which is made standard on all 2015 S-Class models. That system helps prevent crashes at speeds above 4 mph, and can brake automatically at speeds up to 124 mph.

The S600 arrives in dealerships this spring.
