The 2015 Subaru WRX STI didn’t make its public debut at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show as rumored, but we won’t have to wait too much longer to see it. The automaker just announced that the 2015 Subaru WRX STI will make its official debut at the upcoming 2014 Detroit auto show, though no further details were released.

Subaru also didn’t provide any teaser photos, but expect the WRX STI to sport a large rear spoiler and wide fenders to stand out from the 2015 WRX sedan that we first saw at the L.A. show. The outgoing 2014 Subaru WRX STI currently makes 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer-four, so the 2015 model should stay in the 300-horsepower neighborhood. An advanced differential system and beefier brake setup should also be standard fare.

That said, it's too soon to say how wide the performance gap will be between the WRX and WRX STI. We recently tested a 2015 Subaru WRX equipped with the six-speed manual, which needed 5.5 seconds to run from 0-60 mph and 14 seconds to complete the quarter mile. The WRX makes 268 hp and 258 lb-ft from a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four. Look for more details on the 2015 WRX STI closer to its official debut at the Detroit show.
