Vehicle Overview

Updated last year, the Volvo XC60 gets a handful of changes for the new year. The 2015 Volvo XC60 sports a few minor trim changes, in addition to Volvo's new lineup of Drive-E four-cylinder engines, bringing the luxury crossover's engine count to four, and upping fuel economy as well.

The 2015 Volvo XC60 shares its new Drive-E engines with the S60 sedan. The XC60 T5 Drive-E is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged I-4 making 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is the only available drivetrain on this model. The next rung up the ladder is a 3.2-liter I-6. Available only with all-wheel drive, the 3.2-liter engine produces 240 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. The second Drive-E engine is another rung up. The front-wheel drive only XC60 T6 Drive-E has a 2.0-liter turbo and supercharged I-4 making 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Topping the XC60 engine lineup is a pair of all-wheel-drive, turbocharged I-6s. The XC60 T6 has a 3.0-liter, turbocharged I-6 making 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, while the sport XC60 R-Design boosts power up to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Eight-speed automatics back up the Drive-E engines, while the rest of the lineup sports a six-speed automatic.

The Volvo XC60 remains a solid player in the midsize lux crossover segment. It's comfortable, quiet, and relatively sporty. Most important, the XC60 stands out from the growing crowd of German luxury crossovers.

UPDATE: A limited-edition model called the XC60 Ocean Race Edition is new for 2015 and is available in the T6 Drive-E and T6 AWD trims. Features exclusive to the XC60 Ocean Race Edition include orange stitching on the door panels, floor mats, and luggage compartment, Ocean Race deco inlay, inscribed “Volvo Ocean Race” tread plate, Volvo Ocean Race emblems on the front fenders, unique 18-inch wheels and Volvo Ocean Race start up logo on the infotainment screen. All XC60 Ocean Race Edition crossovers come in an exclusive Ocean Race Blue II exterior color.

Volvo’s full suite of safety aids is available in the Premier trim as part of the Technology Package and as standard in the range-topping Platinum grade. This includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist and Distance Alert, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake, Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection with Full Auto Brake, and lane departure warning. Blind spot warning is available as a standalone option in all trims and comes with rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear park assist, and Lane Change Merge Aid. In combination with the Climate Package, buyers can also opt for two dual-stage integrated child booster seats. The NHTSA awarded the 2015 XC60 a five-star overall safety rating (out of a possible five stars) and is considered a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS, earning a Good score in five categories (Good is the highest possible score) and offering superior frontal crash prevention (front crash prevention awards include Basic, Advanced, and Superior).
