The 2016 Acura ILX scored an overall five stars in crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In individual categories, the 2016 ILX earned four stars in front crashes, five stars in side crashes, and four stars in rollover tests. Each of these star ratings match the scores earned by the 2015 model.

According to Honda, the 2016 ILX comes with an enhanced body structure that helps distribute crash energy more evenly through the front of the vehicle. The front pillar, side sill, front floor frame, and the front wheelhouse upper member were reinforced to improve crash test performance in small-offset frontal collisions.

While government crash test ratings are out, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has yet to release its own scores for the updated ILX. The 2015 model achieved "Good" marks in all areas tested, including moderate overlap front crashes, side crashes, and roof strength and head restraint tests. The agency did not rank the ILX's performance in small overlap front crashes that year.

For 2016, Acura has enhanced the ILX with a number of safety features on the AcuraWatch Plus Package. Collision mitigation braking, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control are included in the package, which is available for an extra $1,300 when tacked onto the base ILX.
