This week, Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio celebrated its 5 millionth vehicle to roll off the production line, a 2016 Acura RDX. On the same day, the RDX went on sale at Acura dealerships nationwide.

The East Liberty plant began operations back in 1989, producing passenger cars and light trucks for both Honda and Acura, including models like the CR-V, Civic, CL Coupe, and RDX. Currently, the plant employs 2,350 associates and has the capacity to manufacture 240,000 units annually.

"Our current team of talented associates at East Liberty is proud to represent the thousands of associates who worked over the past 26 years to reach this impressive production milestone," said Tim Myers, plant manager at East Liberty. "We've got a great team that continues to challenge and achieve new levels of quality and efficiency to satisfy our customers."

Honda has recently completed major renovations to the East Liberty plant to enhance assembly lines, including replacing main and sub-assembly lines. This comes in preparation for the Acura MDX, which moves from Alabama to East Liberty in 2017. But until then, the plant will take advantage of its more flexible manufacturing capabilities as it continues to produce popular models from both the Honda and Acura lineups.
