Aston Martin is adding another DB9 variant for the 2016 model year. The British automaker revealed the new 2016 Aston Martin DB9 GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. The new DB9 GT slots between the standard DB9 and the Vanquish.

As with much of the automaker’s lineup, the new DB9 GT is powered by a version of the automaker’s 5.9-liter V-12 engine, which is rated 540 hp at 6,750 rpm and 457 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm in the new model. That’s 30 hp more and the same amount of torque as the standard Aston Martin DB9 and 28 hp and 8 lb-ft less than the Vanquish. Power from the front-mid-mounted engine is sent to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted Touchtronic II six-speed automatic transmission. EPA-rated fuel economy is 13/19/15 mpg city/highway/combined.

Aston Martin claims the DB9 GT can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 183 mph. Those acceleration times may be conservative. While the automaker claims the standard DB9 can reach 62 mph in 4.6 seconds, we hit 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. Riding on a double-wishbone suspension front and rear, the DB9 GT features a three-stage Adaptive Damping System (ADS) with Normal, Sport, and Track modes.

Inside, the Aston Martin DB9 GT gets the automaker’s new AMi II touchscreen infotainment system, which improves upon the AMi system in the Vanquish. The latest system is said to offer a more user-friendly menu. AMi II includes text message integration and vehicle status information (visual vehicle status power and torque meters, real-time read-outs of engine bhp and torque) as well as customizable background themes. Other infotainment features include AM, FM, DAB and SDAR reception, USB ports, and Bluetooth phone and audio.

Visual changes to the DB9 GT over the standard DB9 include subtle GT badges and a GT logo engraved on the aluminum fuel cap, black-painted splitter and diffuser, revised headlights and taillights, black anodized brake calipers, and new 10-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels. Available options include carbon fiber taillight inserts, side strakes, front splitter, and rear diffuser. Other optional bits include diamond-turned 10-spoke alloy wheels and custom brake caliper colors.

Inside, the DB9 GT features GT embroidery on the "Glen Coe" flute leather and an iridium trim package, while coupe models feature an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel. Interior options include Ice Mocha or Copper Cuprum finishes for the center console, Duotone leather seats, door inserts and header, and a steering wheel inspired by the One-77 supercar.

Aston Martin has also updated the Vantage and Rapide S with the new AMi II infotainment system as well as new content including new color and trim options. New exterior colors include Cinnabar Orange and Ultramarine Black on Vantage models. Inside, the V8 Vantage GT is available with the California Poppy interior accent, while new stitching colors include Royal Mint, Spicy Red, Copper, and Deep Purple. Other updates include revised alloy wheel designs.
