The 2016 Buick Encore receives a new trim level called Sport Touring, but rather than being simply an equipment pack, the model designation endows the compact luxury crossover with a more powerful engine. The Sport Touring's 1.4-liter turbo-four engine, which is not related to the standard 1.4-liter engine in other Encore models, packs 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, increases of 15 hp and 29 lb-ft versus the standard Buick Encore.

The aluminum-block inline-four has several updates to reduce noise and vibration, and it also comes standard with a stop-start feature to reduce fuel consumption. While front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive remains optional.

Other options include a Bose sound system, touchscreen, navigation, and a moonroof.
