Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have certainly picked up steam over the last year, and Cadillac is now on the list of manufacturers to support the systems, with both being rolled out across the 2016 lineup. The updates come thanks to an updated CUE infotainment system, which the automaker says features a faster and more streamlined operation.

Apple CarPlay will first debut in newer Cadillac models, with drivers being able to access it via CUE’s 8-inch multi-touch screen. This, however, doesn’t apply to the SRX, since the crossover will be replaced by an XT-badged vehicle for the 2016 model year. Android Auto will follow soon after, as 2016 Cadillacs will begin arriving in dealers this summer. For those who aren’t familiar with Apple CarPlay, the system easily integrates your phone into the infotainment system by displaying your favorite apps like Spotify on the touchscreen. These apps can be accessed by touching the screen or by voice commands through Siri. Google’s Android Auto works similarly, with the obvious difference being that it's designed for Android-based smartphones.

As far as the CUE updates go, Cadillac has added a more powerful processor to the CUE system, enabling a faster start-up, voice recognition, navigation searches, and media playing. In addition, the navigation system’s interface has been updated to return destination search results much faster, while also making it easier for drivers to input destination points. Map screens have been redesigned for easier use, including one-touch control of commonly used features like route cancellation.

The 2016 Escalade, CTS, and XTS will further add Surround Vision as part of the CUE updates. Surround Vision enhances rear visibility by offering a 360-degree view of the outside of the car.
