The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze doesn't make its official debut until June 24, but to whet our appetites, General Motors has released a teaser image of the new car.

The model looks quite a bit like the Chevrolet Cruze Bares It All" target="_blank">Cruze we spotted last month, down to the grille details and body color. The Cruze's new style is expected to borrow heavily from the redesigned Malibu. MotorTrend Image© Provided by MotorTrend MotorTrend Image

GM says that the 2016 Cruze will be larger yet lighter than the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco First Test" target="_blank">previous model. Along with new safety technologies, the Cruze will come with a new family of engines. These could include the 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that debuted in the Malibu, a 2.0-liter turbodiesel offered with the current Cruze, and a possible plug-in hybrid.

When the Cruze came out for the 2011 model year, it replaced 15 other compact vehicle offerings around the globe, allowing Chevrolet to consolidate engineering and design efforts into one vehicle. Now, it is Chevrolet's best-selling car globally, and to date, over 3.5 million Cruze cars have been sold. Currently, the Cruze is sold in 115 countries around the world, with its top markets including China, the U.S., Brazil, and Canada.

The second-generation Cruze goes on sale here in early 2016.
