Research

In base form, the Malibu is priced below many key competitors including the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Kia Optima, and Nissan Altima. However, the Hyundai Sonata and Mazda6 come with a smaller price tag.
Standard equipment on the base 2016 Chevrolet Malibu L includes a 160-hp 1.5-liter Ecotec engine, 10 airbags, push-button start, cruise control, and stop-start technology. Stepping up to the LS model, priced at $23,995, brings a standard 7-inch touchscreen with rearview camera and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility.

On the LT model, look for LED daytime running lamps and eight-way power driving seats, all for a price of $25,895. A larger eight-inch touchscreen is available on this model. Instead of the base 1.5-liter engine, LT buyers have the option to upgrade to a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo, but that brings costs up to $29,495.
At the top of the lineup is the Malibu Premier, priced at $31,795 with the 2.0-liter engine. This trim brings standard leather-appointed ventilated seats, dual rear-seat USB ports, wireless phone charging, and Teen Driver nanny aids that restrict certain vehicle functions to help kids focus on the road.
In spring 2016, Chevrolet will start production on the new Malibu Hybrid lineup. We won't know pricing until closer to the green sedan's production date, but we do know Chevy expects it to achieve a 47-mpg combined rating thanks to drive unit technology it shares with the 2016 Volt. A 1.8-liter inline-four is mated to two electric motors as well as a lithium-ion battery.
Chevrolet has made the Malibu sedan lean and mean for its ninth generation. It may be longer than the old model, but it is also nearly 300 pounds lighter. A new roof design should give passengers more headroom, and thanks to the car's extended wheelbase, the car offers 1.3 more inches of legroom.
