An electric blue 2016 Chevrolet Volt played peek-a-boo during the 2014 Los Angeles auto show, showing off half of its front fascia. The second-generation 2016 Volt will makes its official debut at the upcoming Detroit auto show in just a few months, and the car is expected to be substantially different from the current model.

Based on the picture, the new Volt will sport a more dramatic fascia, with a small grille above the front bumper, and a larger metallic-like grille in the lower portion of the valance. The headlights are taller and sharper, while the foglamps appear to be all-LED units that run vertically on the outer edge of the lower bumper. As previously reported, the 2016 Volt will feature an all-new powertrain. A 1.5-liter I-4 replaces the current 1.4-liter mill, and it should be more efficient and refined. The battery pack will be lighter and more efficient, while the all-electric range is expected to jump from the current EPA-rated 38 miles to around 50 miles.

The 2016 Volt arrives in showrooms sometime next year, and rumors suggest a budget version will be available. The current base price is around $35,000, while the 2014 Toyota Prius Plug-in starts at $30,800.
