The Ford Mustang adds new packages and options for the 2016 model year, including the return of turn signals in the hood vents. Hood vent turn signals were first made available for the 1967 Mustang, and were featured on many later models for a number of years. Now the signals return as standard equipment for the 2016 Ford Mustang GT.

Initially exclusive to the 2012-2013 Boss 302, for 2016 the Mustang GT and EcoBoost models can now be ordered with a painted black roof.

The California Special package also returns for the 2016 Mustang GT Premium. Checking the CS box on the order form nets the buyer a range of cosmetic changes for the interior and exterior of the Mustang, starting with 19-inch black aluminum wheels, hood and side stripes, a black spoiler, darkened taillight accents, black-painted mirrors and hood vents, an aggressive front splitter, and a unique front grille. On the inside, the package adds leather and suede seat inserts with red contrasted stitching, aluminum dashboard finish with special badging, and unique door panel inserts. Under the hood, the package adds an exclusive strut-tower brace.

For buyers looking to darken the appearance of their new Mustang, the new Black Accent package adds special 19-inch black wheels, a black decklid spoiler, darkened taillight trim, and blackened pony and 5.0 badges for GT models (red car, below).

Finally, 2016 Ford Mustang GT convertibles equipped with a manual transmission are now available with the optional Performance package, which was previously available only for Mustang coupes. The Performance pack adds more aggressive chassis tuning, with extra braces and a sportier suspension, with a larger rear sway bar and stiffer front springs. A larger radiator keeps the 5.0-liter V-8 cooler during high-performance driving, while the six-piston front Brembo brake calipers keep the driver safe. The stability control, ABS, and electric power steering receive a more aggressive tune as well. A Torsen limited-slip differential with a 3.73 axle ratio is added, along with standard 19-inch black aluminum wheels shod with performance summer tires. Finally, the instrument panel gains new aluminum trim, along with auxiliary gauges.

Ford adds the next generation of their Sync infotainment system to 2016 Mustang GT’s equipped with the Premium package.

The 2016 Ford Mustang and all of the new packages will be available beginning later this year.
