Back at the 2015 Detroit auto show, we got our first look at the new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and the first Sonata Plug-in Hybrid. Now, Hyundai has announced pricing for the 2016 Sonata Hybrid, and while the starting price of the base model remains the same as the previous model year at $26,825, the Sonata Hybrid Limited adds $900 to its starting price, which is now $30,925. For an additional $4,500, Sonata Hybrid Limited customers can opt for the Limited Ultimate package. Pricing for the plug-in has yet to be announced.

While pricing may be relatively unchanged, Hyundai has swapped out the 2.4-liter MPI Theta II Atkinson four-cylinder engine in favor of the 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine. Both the base and Limited model will come with a six-speed automatic transmission that is now more efficient thanks to a larger, 38-kW electric motor and electric oil pump. Combined output hits 193 hp, and while power may have decreased slightly, efficiency is up 10 percent.

Visual changes between the gas-powered Sonata and its hybrid counterpart include a larger front grille and unique bumpers, fenders, and wheels. The plug-in won't offer much in the way of external differences aside from its charging port, but inside is a different story. Hyundai has given the PHEV a unique instrument cluster.
