After making its overseas debut a few months ago, the 2016 Kia Sorento is coming to the Los Angeles auto show later this month.

Leading up to this debut, Kia for the first time has released a photo of the U.S.-spec Sorento (above), revealing a lower roofline and higher beltline than the current crossover. The new SUV has grown in overall size, adding 3.8 inches in overall length and 3 extra inches in the wheelbase compared to the current model. Other updates include a bolder, flatter tiger nose grille and redesigned headlights. The SUV will continue to offer LX, EX, and SX trim levels, but along with these trims, the Sorento will add an L trim as the new base model and an SXL trim as the new range-topper to replace the Limited.

Kia hasn't released full details on the SUV's interior, but we anticipate added refinement. Early sketches show a redesigned wrap-around dashboard, high quality soft-touch materials, and a larger infotainment system. Other cues come from the Euro-spec Sorento, which is reminiscent of previous models but adds expensive-looking materials like brushed aluminum and matte black accents.

The 2016 Kia Sorento will continue to offer three rows of seating in addition to the standard five-passenger model. We expect the U.S. Sorento to offer a tweaked 2.4-liter four-cylinder, and possibly the familiar 3.3-liter V-6, although it is somewhat likely that this option will be phased out for the new model year.
