Mazda introduced its new CX-3 subcompact crossover alongside the redesigned MX-5 Miata and refreshed versions of the Mazda6 and CX-5 at the L.A. auto show today.

Based on the Mazda2 that debuted in Japan earlier this year, the CX-3 sits higher than its hatchback sibling but is smaller than the CX-5 compact crossover. It also features Mazda's Kodo design language and a full suite of Skyactiv technologies, Mazda’s name for a suite of fuel-saving tech that includes low-friction, higher-compression engines. Under the hood of the North American CX-3 is a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder, although Mazda has yet to disclose power numbers. This engine will be paired with a six-speed automatic and the buyer's choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

Mazda says it expects the CX-3 to be one of its core products as the subcompact crossover class grows. Mazda has not yet specified an arrival date for the U.S. market, but we do know the crossover will go on sale starting in Japan in spring 2015.

Along with the CX-3, Mazda also brought out the refreshed 2016 MX-5 Miata, which is making its auto show debut in L.A. The refreshed 2016 Mazda6 and CX-5 both receive an upgraded front fascia, grille, and headlights. Look for more refined interiors in these new models as well, Mazda says.
