Mazda's new fourth-generation Miata will race in its very own Global Cup series around the world, the automaker announced at the 2014 SEMA show this week.

The single-make races will take place in North America, Europe, and Asia starting in 2016. At the end of that year, a series champion will be announced at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.

All Global MX-5 Cup race cars will come equipped with the stock 2016 model's 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine, although we still aren't sure how much power this unit will produce. By next year, Mazda will have selected the race car's tires as well as modifications to the powertrain, suspension, and safety equipment. At this time, a single supplier will sell the identical Global MX-5 Cup race cars, which come off the line "ready to race."

Along with holding the title of the best-selling roadster in history, the MX-5 Miata is also the most road-raced car in the world. Until 2016, the previous-generation Miata will continue to race in North America. Look for the third-gen Miata at the 2015 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup at Sebring in March.

If the Miata isn't your cup of tea, Audi announced a one-make racing series for its TT model. This race car, which is slated to make its track debut in Germany next year, sports a 2.0-liter turbo I-4 with 306 hp, or the same as the road-going TTS.
