Subaru completely redesigned the Legacy and Outback last year, but that isn't stopping the automaker from making some big changes to these vehicles for 2016. Both vehicles will offer improved steering, an upgraded Starlink multimedia system, and other technologies.

Subaru has adjusted the electric power-assist steering on all 2016 Legacy and Outback models for a "more linear and natural feel." Meanwhile, changes to the suspension promise reduced vibration over rough roads. A new auto on/off mode operates the windshield wiper with the headlights.

Another standard feature on both models is Starlink infotainment, which brings a 6.2-inch single-touch gesture display, HD Radio, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, live traffic alerts, and smartphone integration with Aha and Pandora. Premium and Limited models feature the 7.0-inch screen as well as additional safety options from Starlink. The Safety Plus package includes SOS emergency assistance, enhanced roadside assistance, crash notifications, monthly vehicle health reports, and more. Upgrading to the Safety Plus and Security Plus Package adds stolen vehicle recovery, remote lock and unlock, remote lights control, remote vehicle locator, and security alarm notifications. In addition to these safety features, Subaru is updating its EyeSight driver aid technology by adding lane keep assist. If the driver drifts out of the appropriate lane while traveling at speeds over 40 mph, the vehicle can gently nudge itself back on track. The function is activated by a switch on the steering wheel.

Both vehicles go on sale this summer with slightly higher price tags than last year. The 2016 Legacy starts at $22,540 after destination, while the Outback comes in at $25,845 after fees.
