The latest EPA ratings are out, and the 2016 Toyota Mirai returned 67 mpge with a total range of 312 miles on a single fill of hydrogen. With that kind of range, the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle offers the benefits of zero-emissions transportation without the range anxiety many experience with electric vehicles.

While Toyota’s own Prius plug-in and the Tesla Model S both earn 95 mpge, the 2016 Toyota Mirai 's 312-mile range is the most of any zero-emission vehicle on the market. And as we learned ahead of the car’s reveal at 2014 Los Angeles auto show, it can be fully refueled in less than five minutes.

Not only is the Mirai more efficient, but it’s also more powerful at 151 hp and 247 lb-ft from its electric drive motor.

Our drive of the 2016 Toyota Mirai around California proved how well Toyota made the Mirai feel like a next-gen electric vehicle. Fluid acceleration, excellent transitions between regenerative braking and the mechanical brakes, and Toyota’s reputation for quality and durability make the Mirai a strong option for zero-emissions fanatics.

In addition to free roadside assistance for three years and an expanded warranty, Toyota will also pay for three years of hydrogen fuel, valued at up to $15,000.

The 2016 Toyota Mirai goes on sale this fall to California customers. Production will start with about 200 vehicles at first, and expand to 3,000 by the end of 2017.
