When you're releasing a new product to the market, it's a great feeling when that product sells out in a flash. The First Edition of the all-new 2016 Volvo XC90 was an instant hit, and within the first 47 hours it was on sale, it managed to sell out of the 1927 individually numbered units. What's more, these vehicles were only for sale online.

At the online sale's peak, seven cars were sold in one minute. Volvo says most of the inventory was reserved within an hour of hitting the market. These First Edition cars not only mark the first time a vehicle was available exclusively on the automaker's website, but also celebrate the year Volvo was founded -- 1927, which is the number of SUVs in the First Edition. 2016 Volvo XC90© Provided by MotorTrend 2016 Volvo XC90

The 2016 Volvo XC90 was completely redesigned for the new model year, after not seeing any significant changes since it first hit the market 12 years ago. These changes will help the automaker reclaim sales here in the 'States. With a redesigned front fascia, interior, and new body structure, the XC90 will no doubt turn heads.

Based off the brand's all-new Scalable Product Architecture, the 2016 XC90 is larger and lighter than the outgoing three-row luxury crossover. Loaded with new content inside and out, the all-new SUV will feature two Drive-E engine options, the T6 and T8. The base T6 produces 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter I-4, while the T8 utilizes the same engine as the T6, but adds a 60-kW, 80-hp electric motor, enabling hybrid, gas, or pure electric power. Both options feature all-wheel drive. 2016 Volvo XC90© Provided by MotorTrend 2016 Volvo XC90

Before the release of the new model, Volvo hyped up the XC90 with teaser images and slowly released information, including specs on the two new engines and host of new and updated safety technology. Regarding the pace of XC90 sales, Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group, said in a statement, "We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world premiere last week."
