The 2017 Kia Sportage has yet to make its official debut at the upcoming Frankfurt auto show, but three new official photos give away the exterior look of this new compact crossover. With an aggressive new front end and plenty of new trim pieces, the new Sportage represents a significant change from the current, third-generation Sportage that’s been around since 2010.

The most distinctive element of the 2017 Kia Sportage is the SUV’s face, which incorporates elements like Kia’s “tiger-nose” corporate grille, angular headlights that sweep onto the front fenders, and large foglight modules that use four individual LEDs like on the larger Kia Sorento crossover. The upright, stubby nose tapers into a profile that maintains a similar greenhouse as the current Sportage, and the rear end displays wraparound LED taillights clearly inspired by the Kia K900 luxury sedan.

In the U.S., that model offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder as a base engine, and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated with a dual-clutch automatic as an option. The Sportage will continue to offer both front- and all-wheel drive versions.

Stay tuned for more information about the 2017 Kia Sportage to come out as this new crossover arrives at the Frankfurt auto show in a few weeks.
