2017 Kia Sportage Refreshed for Frankfurt Show

Kia's cars are looking better and better with every redesign, ever since lead designer Peter Schreyer jumped on board the Korean automaker's staff. We expect the same improvements when the 2017 Kia Sportage is unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt show. Look for all-new styling as well as a redesigned interior, boasting better materials and new technology.

Now entering its fourth generation, the 2017 Kia Sportage should adopt major updates that will look familiar from the recently redesigned Kia Sorento. It will come as no surprise that the next Sportage will take up Kia's corporate nose, but we also expect to see the headlights positioned higher on the hood, longer rear doors, a higher beltline, new taillight design, and new rear bumper. We got our first look at a camouflaged 2017 Kia Sportage during winter testing back in February.

A new three-spoke steering wheel and redesigned center stack are on the menu, as well as higher-quality materials and up-to-date infotainment and safety technology.

If the new Sportage grows in size, it would add fuel to rumors that Kia is making room for a smaller, B-segment crossover to take on the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, and Jeep Renegade. From the spy shots we've seen, Kia's upcoming crossover could be a relative of the Chinese-market KX3, combined with styling cues from the 2013 Kia Niro concept. It's also possible that Kia will instead simply add AWD to the successful Kia Soul, as previewed by the Trail'ster concept from this past Chicago show.
