2018 Buick Regal

Vehicle Summary

The 2018 Buick Regal is the automaker's midsize front- or all-wheel-drive sport sedan that slots between the recently discontinued compact Buick Verano and full-size Buick LaCrosse sedans. The 2018 Buick Regal is all-new and shares much of its underpinnings and styling with the European-market Opel Insignia. The chassis already underpins the current Chevrolet Malibu sedan.

Although GM hasn't released official details on the new 2018 Buick Regal, don't be surprised if the new model was previewed by the redesigned 2018 Opel Insignia four-door hatchback and Opel Insignia Sports Tourer wagon. Both hatchback and wagon will be new body styles for the modern Regal, which has in recent years only been sold as a sedan.

We expect the 2018 Buick Regal to be powered by the latest version of the automaker's turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 mated to the new nine-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Ford. While that combo makes 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque in the Malibu, the turbo 2.0-liter has the potential to make more power in different tunes. Though less likely, the Malibu's standard turbo 1.5-liter I-4 and six-speed automatic could be offered in a base model as well as the 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain for fuel-conscious buyers.
