2018 Jeep Cherokee

Motor Trend logo Motor Trend 4/4/2017 Motor Trend Staff

Vehicle Summary

The Cherokee is positioned below the flagship Grand Cherokee model in price but above the smaller and less expensive Compass, Patriot, and Renegade models (the two-door Wrangler starts around the same price as the Cherokee). The Cherokee fits the bill for those who want some off-road capability but without the Wrangler's less comfortable ride and lack of practicality.

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee will enter the fifth model year of the current generation, and we have yet to hear of any announcements of a refresh or completely new model (we'll update this space as soon as we have official info). For 2018, we expect the Cherokee to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

The powertrains will more than likely carry over from 2017 and include the standard 184-hp 2.4-liter I-4 and the 271-hp 3.2-liter V-6, both mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The three different all-wheel-drive systems, Jeep Active Drive 1, Jeep Active Drive II, and Jeep Active Drive Lock, should return.
