2018 Jeep Wrangler

Vehicle Summary

The Wrangler is Jeep's most dedicated off-road model with impressive capability on almost any terrain. Aside from the flagship Grand Cherokee, the Wrangler carries the highest base price in the Jeep lineup, above the Renegade, Patriot, and Compass, and a bit above the Cherokee.

Jeep may release the next-generation Wrangler for the 2018 model year. We have seen spy shots of the next generation traditional Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, the upcoming Wrangler truck, and a possible new engine for the SUV's next generation. The current generation is powered by a 285-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that comes mated to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic. We expect to see the return of the ubiquitous Pentastar V-6 in the new generation along with a possible 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4, turbodiesel engine, and even a hybrid powertrain in a few years. The six-speed manual is likely to return and we hope to see the dated five-speed automatic replaced by Jeep's eight- or nine-speed automatic transmission. Updated versions of the Command-Trac and the available Rock-Trac transfer cases will probably find their way into into the Wrangler lineup.

Expect the next-generation Wrangler to feature lightweight materials like aluminum body panels, revised aerodynamics, more efficient drivetrains, and a stronger and lighter frame. The solid front and rear axles should return along with the classic boxy styling. The two-door Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited models will more than likely return with the addition of the new Wrangler pickup. Do not be surprised to see popular trims like the Sport and Rubicon return and limited/special edition models as well.

We'll update this space as soon as we have official info.

Cool Fact

The Jeep Wrangler is one of few SUVs left to have a six-speed manual as the standard transmission.
