2021 Mazda 3

You wouldn't know it by looking at the Mazda 3's attractive sheetmetal, but 2021 is a big year for the compact. Already offered in sedan and four-door hatchback forms and with FWD or AWD, the 2021 Mazda 3 adds two engines. The first is a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated I-4 with 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. It's the 3's new base-trim engine, while at the very top of the extensive lineup, a turbo returns.

Although the 2.5T model is more premium-focused than the long-gone Mazdaspeed3 from previous generations, power-hungry enthusiasts should be satisfied by the car's 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That's with 87-octane fuel; if you can fill it with 93, those figures jump to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft. Either way, most 2021 Mazda 3 models will still roll out of the factory beating with the heart of a 186-hp 2.5-liter naturally aspirated I-4 that's good for 186 lb-ft.
