22 most dependable cars on the road

The 2014 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study is the 25th edition, but this year there's cause for only a mixed celebration. The study tracks problems experienced over a 12-month period by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Ratings are determined by calculating the number of problems per 100 examples (PP100) of a particular car. This year the average number of vehicle problems went up: 2014's 133 PP100 is a 6 percent increase over the 2013 average of 126 PP100. J.D. Power cites engine and transmission issues as areas raising the average number of problems in the 2014 study. That said, here are the vehicles recognized by J.D. Power as the most dependable in their segments.
