The “dad bod”is in.

The latest trend in men’s fashion isn’t taking on a caveman diet or spending hours at the fitness club. It’s a more relaxed attitude toward self-maintenance, balancing moderate exercise and regular consumption of food and beverage, and seeing how things settle. Sure, toned abs and six-packs are great for beach weather, but for the rest of us—who spend the majority of our lives behind desks and not in bathing suits—we’re completely fine prioritizing comfort over the hassle of a weekly spinning appointment.

And (we hear) the fairer sex is unwittingly attracted to it.

To mark the occasion of the newest trend, we’ve assembled a list of seven vehicles that we believe embody the fad, and take pride in their comfort factor that’s enticing for all the right reasons.

Lest you believe these are simply “dad”cars, and not dad-bod cars, read on.

The classic muscle car dad bod: 2015 Dodge Challenger

With a more comfortable and spacious interior than its pony car counterparts, the Challenger is certainly the 'dad bod' of muscle cars.© Dodge With a more comfortable and spacious interior than its pony car counterparts, the Challenger is certainly the 'dad bod' of muscle cars.

When it comes to muscle cars, the first nameplates to come to mind are often the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro. The Dodge Challenger is no less powerful than those two, but its body and driving dynamics aren’t quite as taut as the segment leaders’. But its comfortable ride, timeless looks, and up-for-adventure attitude are absolutely addictive. That being said, you could never accuse the 707-horsepower Challenger Hellcat of having the dad bod. As the world’s most powerful muscle car, the Hellcat is a chiseled brute - and we’re totally okay with it!

The family-focused dad bod van with stuff to do: 2015 Kia Sedona

Perhaps the ultimate expression of the dad bod is the minivan shape: globular, spacious, and big for the sake of being, well, bigger and more accommodating. Of our favorite recent minivan entries, the Kia Sedona emphasizes comfort above all else, what with a second row to rival a business-class cabin and wide, lounge-style seats throughout. And believe it or not, this is a pretty stylish and downright good-looking minivan. Yes, that can actually happen. And it’s just as surprising as discovering a gym visit, followed by three slices of pizza, is now considered trendy.

The dad bod sedan that favors polo shirts and sneakers: 2015 Chevrolet Impala

The Chevrolet Impala is one of our go-to picks for large and relaxed front-wheel-drive sedans, and everything about the Impala’s demeanor seems to say, “I’m fine with that.”Its styling won’t set the segment ablaze; its powertrain offerings err on the side of average, rather than powerful; and its big trunk sticks out just a bit more than, say a Ford Fusion’s. But if you lots of miles to cover and want to a calm and collected traveling companion, this is the large sedan for you. That classic Impala nameplate doesn’t hurt matters, either.

The stylish and trend-setting dad bod SUV: 2016 Ford Edge

© Ford

The Ford Edge has always benefited from being the trendily styled alternative to the boxy sport-utility vehicle. For 2016, the Edge still relies on the Explorer SUV for its DNA, but wraps a (dare we say it) sexier body around a slightly more stout design. If you like a crossover that takes care of itself, but doesn’t preen its athletic feathers nonstop, the Edge wears the segment’s dad-bod title proudly. Even dad bod cars, and SUVs, can take pleasure in looking trend-setting – even if it’s in a larger size and scale.

The dad-bod sport sedan that likes to play: 2016 Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima carries the baggage of the moniker of “four-door sports car,”a claim that Nissan made in the sedan’s earlier days. Now, several generations later, the Maxima has matured into a larger, slightly less athletic, but no less authentic version of itself. To its credit, the Maxima is more stylish than ever before, masking its everyday body with some head-turning clothes—and outpacing the general look of the midsize sedan segment completely. This is a sport sedan that will play an afternoon of touch football, but happily skip a workout here and there.

The dad-bod with a taste for the finer things: 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

© Mercedes-Benz

There’s nothing dad-bod-ish about the Mercedes-Benz E-class sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible—at least on the surface. We love the smoothness of all of its engine choices, from the frugal turbo-diesel up to the outlandish twin turbo V-8 tuned by AMG. And let’s not forget this German luxury sedan oozes refinement and careful attention to detail – you won’t find any “sweatpants to the bagel store are okay”attitude here. But the E-class also wears its Faconnable shirts untucked, whistles “Easy Like Sunday Morning,”and doesn’t mind a little roundness around the edges. It’s a luxury sedan that doesn’t take itself, or anything else, too seriously.
