Acura NSX Prototype Spied Again at the ‘Ring

Another Acura NSX prototype has been spotted at the 'Ring, and this time the testing session appears to have gone without incident. Although the last mule seen at the Nürburgring caught fire, such events are common during vehicle development -- even with non-hybrid vehicles. These spy shots show that the Acura NSX program is still progressing.

Cooler temperatures may have helped this mule survive the test session, but here's hoping that whatever caused the last prototype to burn to the ground has been fixed entirely. The tester also had to contend with a partially wet surface this time out.

The Acura NSX was first revealed at the 2012 Detroit auto show, and the production version is expected to debut halfway through the 2015 calendar year. While still heavily camouflaged, this test mule looks to retain most of the concept’s styling.

Honda is benchmarking some serious competitors with the new NSX including the Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren 12C, and Porsche 911 GT3. We've heard that front-engine cars such as the Nissan GT-R and C6 Corvette Z06 were only briefly considered as benchmarks during early development.

Power for the Acura NSX will come from a mid-mounted longitudinal twin-turbo V-6 of unknown displacement, which will be assisted by three electric motors. One electric motor will sit between the engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the other two electric motors will power the front wheels.
