After debuting at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in January, the 2015 Acura TLX GT racer is ready for the track. Scheduled to compete in the Pirelli World Challenge competition at the Detroit Grand Prix in May, the TLX GT has its work cut out for it since it'll be faced with stiff competition.

The TLX GT will go head-to-head with heavy hitters like the Audi R8 LMS, Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Viper, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911, and Ferrari 458, but even those names won't stop it from competing. Developed by Honda's racing arm, Honda Performance Development (HPD), the TLX GT has been fitted with a special chassis and aerodynamic performance parts approved for the Pirelli World Challenge. Powering the GT racer will be the regular TLX's V-6, but it's been beefed up with two turbochargers. The GT has also been equipped with Acura's SH-AWD for improved traction.

RealTime Racing will field the single Acura TLX GT with team owner Peter Cunningham behind the wheel. A second car will be added later on, and when asked how the old TSX racer compared to the TLX, Cunningham told us at the Detroit show that the TLX GT was "in a different class." Even though the TLX GT race car has been outfitted for track duty, it will serve as an example of how capable the new 2015 TLX sports sedan will be. Before we see the new TLX in dealerships though, you can get a feel for it when the 2015 TLX GT makes its track debut May 30-June 1 at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
