Need more proof that Aston Martin will work with Mercedes-Benz on its next sports car? Take a look at the cabin of this Aston Martin DB11 prototype, which we spotted testing on the Nürburgring with interior components directly from the Mercedes parts bin.

Research

A peek inside the Aston Martin DB11 prototype shows that while the car uses Aston's traditional four circular glass buttons to control the automatic transmission, the remainder of the cabin electronics come from Mercedes. The steering wheel and fully-digital instrument cluster, as well as the rotary Comand infotainment controller and toggle-switch climate controls, are familiar from modern Mercedes-Benz products. This should come as no surprise given that as far back as 2013, Aston Martin signed a technical partnership with Mercedes. The deal means Aston can use various Mercedes engines and electrical components in its future cars. The Aston Martin DB11, spied here, will replace the recently refreshed DB9 GT in the brand's lineup. Yet based on the look of this car's interior, it looks like Aston Martin will also share almost all of the interior components from modern Mercedes models like the S-Class Coupe.

Outside, this prototype looks very similar to the last Aston Martin DB11 we spotted. The sloped nose has Aston's signature swept-back headlights and gaping grille opening, while the coupe's roofline sweeps down into a stubby decklid with a rounded tail.

While many reports suggest the Aston Martin DB11 will adopt Mercedes' 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, it's possible the car could use Aston's first-ever turbocharged V-12 engine. That could help boost horsepower and fuel efficiency.

Look for more details on the Aston Martin DB11 over the coming year.
